Sex is meant for fun but at times becomes a pain literally. The physical and emotional well being of both the partners suffer a great deal due to small issues. Here is what we should all know about painful sex which is called as dyspareunia by medical professionals.
Doctors describe dyspareunia as either on insertion or deep seated. Pain which arises in either partner during penile insertion is more likely due to dryness or friction, while a deep insertion pain is more situated in the abdomen and usually has a medical reason to it like PID or endometriosis.
1) Have more foreplay: the idea is to have fun and delay the painful part for later. With foreplay the amount of lubrication increases in both partners and may make the insertion easy. Take the help of audiovisuals or sex toys if you feel it may help.
2) Reschedule sex: Often one or the other partner may be very tired at night after a long day at work and may not be too willing or tired to have sex. In such cases one can reschedule sex towards a mutually comfortable time like in the morning.
3) Use vaginal lubricants: Water based vaginal lubricants are ideal when one is using condoms and also when one is planning a pregnancy. Any other situation, one can even use an oil based lubricant. Lubrication eases the entry of penis into the vagina, thus avoiding painful frictional cuts which are painful.
4) Adopt a different position: Sometimes due to the penis being bent slightly (a normal variation), sex can get painful in a particular position. Putting a pillow under the hips or altering the sexual position may ease out the pain.
5) Take help: Deep dyspareunia or a very severe pain in the tummy after sex can occur due to medical conditions like endometriosis or pelvic infection. These conditions can be cured by taking medicines. Some may indicate that there may be a difficulty in having babies. If you are suffering from too much pain during sex and are looking forward to starting your family, please consult your doctor for timely help.
