Diabetes can strike people at any age and medical statistics indicate that up to 30 percent people are not aware that they may be having diabetes. People suffering from Diabetes cannot utilize their food carbohydrates fully and have high blood sugar levels. This high sugar level in the blood can lead to serious damage to the heart, vision, and organs like kidney, skin, feet etc. If you have any of these early warning signs, you should consult your doctor and take a blood sugar test immediately. 1) Excessive thirst: Along with excessive thirst, there is a feeling of the mouth being dry all the time, excessive urination, increased hunger and unusual weight gain or loss. Sometimes people need to rush to the loo as often as once or twice every hour.
2) Headaches: frequent headaches become troublesome with fluctuating blood sugar levels. There could be a feeling of blurring of vision, tiredness and day time fatigue as well. Frequent change in the number of your glasses could also indicate a high blood sugar. 3) Frequent infections: You could be having a sore or a cut which is taking a long time to heal, or developing frequent urinary tract or vaginal infections. Often people get frequent rashes or itchiness in the thigh or groin area due to fungal infections.
4) Sexual problems : High blood sugar in men can cause difficulty in arousal or erection. Women can have decreased libido and difficulty in achieving orgasms. If you are over 35 years of age or are overweight and have a family history of diabetes and also facing sexual issues, you should check your blood sugar level by a blood test
5) Numbness in feet: Often an infection or numbness in the feet is the first warning sign of diabetes but these problems actually arise late, when the diabetes has already set in. People with high blood sugar have poor sensations due to nerve damage and are advised to take care of their feet on a regular basis.
