1) Avoid saturated fats and oils, specially butter and coconut oil. In general the harder the fat source, the more saturated it is. The exceptions are coconut and kernel oil which are liquid vegetable oils but are highly saturated. If we fry our food in saturated oils, we indirectly increase our bad cholesterol (LDL) and reduce the good cholesterol (HDL).Olive oil is an exceptional oil and if consumed the right way, may help in reducing the total cholesterol while increasing the HDL levels in our body.
2) Fatty meats like beef steak, hot dogs, sausage, bacon, corned beef, ribs, and processed salted meats not only up the total cholesterol and triglycerides but may increase the risk of various types of cancers as well.
3)Though eggs are an excellent source of nutrients, if one is suffering from high cholesterol levels, it is best to restrict to no more than two egg yolks a week. There is no restriction on the egg whites in an otherwise healthy person.
4) Intake of organ meats like liver and kidney should be avoided.
5) High fat dairy products like full cream milk, white butter, milk cream and paneer made from full cream milk should be taken in moderation. Traditionally, Indian pregnant women are fed panjeeri made with Desi ghee and lots of fried nuts. While they are a ready source of calories in otherwise very busy post delivery days but one must limit their overall intake as they can hamper your baby fat loss programs and up your cholesterol levels as well.
